BAIC Group R&D Base is a R&D center invested and organized by BAIC Group to realize industry collectivization development strategic target of BAIC Motor, set up an independent R&D platform, enhance the independent innovation ability, and create "Beijing" automobile self-owned brand. Mainly relying on the SAAB technology, it has established a complete vehicle system development process, and has the ability in the development of the complete vehicle core parts, the technology integration of the key subsystem, and the complete vehicle system integration & development. It has become a R&D base of BAIC Motor for self-owned brand passenger cars.
BAIC Group R&D Base has more than 2,000 talents both from home and abroad. The proportion of R&D staff exceeds more than 90%. This is a R&D talent team with good quality and reasonable structure. Covering an area of 180,000 square meters, and with the total investment of about RMB1.8 billion, BAIC Group R&D Basehas the product engineering center, product research center, trial-manufacture center, test center, modeling design center, comprehensive and supporting functions, and other trial-manufacture and test, and R&D functions. It is a unit that has a leading position in the organization of national lightweight key laboratory, and it has a post-doctoral scientific research workstation, K&C test and high and low temperature environmental chamber and other international first-class key laboratories listed as a "National Intellectual Property Rights Innovation Guidance Practice Base" and "State-level Enterprise Technology Center".
BAIC Powertrain Co., Ltd., as specialized passenger car powerstrain platform established for the collectivization development of BAIC Group, plans, implements and manages the self-owned brand powertrain business of BAIC Motor in a unified way. BAIC powertrain products are divided into two platforms: engine and transmission, among which, the engine platform has A and B series engine products; and the transmission platform has manual transmission and CVT (continuously variable transmission) products.
Currently, BAIC Powertrain Co., Ltd. has nearly 500 product R&D talents, and has cooperated with many international famous engine R&D institutions; it not only has the R&D ability in the test, trial-manufacture and matching of gasoline engine, diesel engine, transmission and related parts but also possesses the complete vehicle testing laboratory, engine transmission testing laboratory, trial manufacture plants, etc. which have the functions of R&D, trial-manufacture and testfunctions. The testing laboratory has green, low emission, low noise and energy recovery system equipped with high efficient, modular, and standardized testing equipment, and the equipment and capacity can meet the needs of development, application and calibration of the passenger cars, as well as the demand of future international emission laws and regulations.
Beijing-Hyundai Technology Center was established in July 2006. The Technology Center, with a total investment of RMB510 million, covers an area of 150,000 square meters, and after years of accumulation, several localized model development projects are successfully completed, including the dual-fuel automobile, Molnca car, Molnca electric vehicles, 2011 Elantra, Shouwang BHCD-1 concept car, Shouwang electric vehicles, 2013 Tucson, and so on.
The Technology Center is engaged in the core businesses such as development and management, modeling design, engineering design, trial-manufacture and test. It has formed the test ability in totally 15 professional directions, including complete vehicle emissions and fuel consumption, complete vehicle performance/durability test, NVH test, VOC analysis and safety relevance, etc. Meanwhile, it can also provide strong technical support for Beijing Hyundai's production, sales and quality in the aspects such as quality improvement, cost optimization, energy conservation and environmental protection.
Beijing Hyundai Technology Center strictly manages the design quality and product quality from the early stage of design; with the "Hyundai Fluidic Sculpture" as the modeling design concept, it strives to create high quality cars that conform to the local market demand, and with strict engineering design and rigorous trial-manufacture and test ability, it ensures the perfect quality of each car, which provides strong technical support for the overallvalue chain operation under the millions of production and salessystem of Beijing Hyundai.
Beijing Benz R&D Center is the largest R&D Center in Daimler's joint venture companies; it currently has over 100 employees, and covers a total area of about 150,000 square meters; it is equipped withthe engine testing room, vibration noise testing room, emission testing room, climate corrosion testing room, vehicle calibration testing room, analysis workshop, trial-manufacture workshop, test road, and otherR&D infrastructure; moreover, it possessesvarious development abilities such as new modelsR&D, vehicles,components and parts test and trial manufacturing, parts localization, etc.
BAIC BJEV Co., Ltd., subordinate to BAIC Group, actively carries out foreign cooperation. It successively establishes the joint ventures with American Atieva, Germany Siemens, South Korean SK, domestically leading Broad-Ocean Motor, and Pride Battery, to jointly carry out the development work in the field of new energy vehicles. At present, the company has over 260 new energy passenger carR&D personnel, and has the development, test, and trial-manufacture abilities in complete vehicle integrated matching, complete vehicle control system and electric drive system. Three pure electric models have already been developed and put into production.
Foton, subordinate to BAIC Group, has started the R&D and industrialization of new energy commercial vehicles since 2003, to mainly make breakthroughs in new energy automotive electronic control technology, completevehicle integration technology, power battery grouping and the management, and other core technology. Foton specially set up a new energy technology center in 2007, and now it has about over 150 developers, among which, the talents with overseas studying experience, or with doctor's degree and master's degree account for above 50%. Until now, Foton has invested over one billion yuan, and has achieved some breakthroughs in the new energy core technological research, product platform development, production and manufacturing, supply chain system construction, etc. It has formed three categories of models, i.e. passenger cars (Midi), commercial vehicles (with the loads of respectively 2/3/5/8/16 tons), and bus (7.6/10.5/12/13.7m), totally 40 new energy vehiclemodels of 15 products series in 10 platforms. Its applications involve rental, private purchase, environmental sanitation, logistics, public transportation, etc. and its technical route mainly focuses on pure electric technology, supplemented with plug-in hybrid and clean fuel (LNG/CNG) technologies.
BAIC Group has a strong commercial vehicle development and production capacity, and its subordinate company, Foton Motor Co., Ltd.Engineering Research Institute, was founded in August 1996, was identified as the eleventh batch of state-level technology center in 2004.
Foton Engineering Research Institute has 16 centers (medium and heavy-duty truck technology center, light-duty truck technology center, pickup /SUV technology center, commercial vehicle technology center, cross passenger car technology center, modeling design center, body engineering center, electrical and electronic center, diesel powertrain technology center, transmission center, analysis center, test center, trial-manufacture center, engineering management center, technologymanagement center, and operation management center), two departments (Engineering Quality Department and Party Affairs Department), one Co.,Ltdand 9 secondary technologycenters;it has totally over 3,000 technology developers in commercial vehicle R&D system,it has the ability in planning, design, development and validation of complete vehicles components and parts.
